2012/13 Premier League Odds & Betting Tips: Dec 29th – 30th

by Thomas

The games are now coming thick and fast in the Premier League and this weekend there is another
full list of fixtures taking place.

Manchester United are now seven points clear at the top of the table, so could have one hand on
the title if they maintain that going into the New Year.

At the bottom, Queens Park Rangers and Reading need a few wins to try and move away from trouble, but it is going to be a very tough ask.

So, let’s see which sides are locking horns this weekend.

Sunderland v Tottenham Hotspur – Saturday 12.45PM – Pick: Tottenham Hotspur @ 21/20

Gareth-Bale-Dec-29Kicking off the weekend’s action are two teams in a decent bit of form right now as Sunderland host Tottenham Hotspur.

The Black Cats recorded a superb victory over Champions Manchester City on Boxing Day, which moved them further away from trouble and now the pressure seems to have eased on Martin O’Neill.

As they are at home in this one, Sunderland will fancy their chances of claiming all three points once more.

As for Tottenham, they come into this on the back of a 4-0 win at Aston Villa, which moved them into the top four on goal-difference.

Gareth Bale grabbed himself a hat-trick in that encounter and is showing he is one of the best players in the Premier League right now. If he is one form, along with Jermain Defoe, then Tottenham should win here.

It should be a superb 90 minutes that sets the tone for the day’s action.

Extra Tip – Tottenham to win 2-1 @ 7/1

Aston Villa v Wigan Athletic – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 9/4

This is a battle between two sides that are fighting for their lives at the bottom of the table and the home team are sure to be shot of any sort of confidence.

Villa have gone down 8-0 and 4-0 in their last two matches, which is far from what they need over this busy Christmas period.

They also have a very young side that might be struggling to cope with the pressure they are under. Paul Lambert knows his men simply have to win this one.

Wigan have taken just one point in their last six matches, which is sure to concern Roberto Martinez.

If his men can claim a victory here though, they would move above their opponents, so the incentive to grab the points is certainly there.

It is likely to be a fairly nervy match between two teams that are not playing the best football at the moment.

Fulham v Swansea City – Saturday 3PM – Draw @ 12/5

Dimitar-Berbatov-Dec-29Fulham have now not tasted victory in three matches, whereas Swansea have gone four games without a win, so both will be desperate for the points here.

The Cottagers conceded a late penalty to Southampton last time out, which cost them a win and Martin Jol knows his men are hovering dangerously above the drop zone.

He needs someone like Dimitar Berbatov to really put in a match-winning performance here and provide that bit of quality needed to win a game.

As for Swansea, they still sit in the top half of the Premier League and have picked up precious points in their last two encounters.

The Swans will come to London and look to attack their opponents, as they always do and if Michu is in decent form once more, you can expect them to find the back of the net.

Manchester United v West Bromwich Albion – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Manchester United @ 2/7

Manchester United keep on picking up points and they were involved in a thrilling 4-3 victory over Newcastle United on Boxing Day.

The Red Devils were trailing three times in that match, but fought back and then Javier Hernandez grabbed a late winner to ensure that United went seven points clear at the top.

What Sir Alex Ferguson will be after this weekend though is a solid performance from his men and a straight forward win.

That will not be easy as West Brom are a side more than capable of causing a few problems at Old Trafford.

Steve Clarke brings his team here on the back of two straight wins and they are now within touching distance of the top four once more.

Of course if United are at their best, then they are sure to take the spoils, but it should be a very interesting match.

Extra Tip – Manchester United to win 4-1 @ 16/1

Norwich City v Manchester City – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 3/1

Yaya-Toure-Dec-29Norwich City had been on a superb run of ten matches unbeaten in the top flight, but they have now lost back-to-back games and face another tough 90 minutes here.

The Canaries still sit ten points above the relegation zone so will not be looking over their shoulders just yet, but Chris Hughton is sure to demand a big performance from his team here.

Norwich are capable of beating the big teams in the league, especially at Carrow Road and if the fans get behind the team – they can come out on top.

Manchester City know that nothing other than all three points will do here as a defeat could leave them ten points adrift at the top of the table.

Roberto Mancini’s men have played well in patches, but have been poor for the majority of the campaign and results have to start improving, starting on Saturday afternoon.

Reading v West Ham United – Saturday 3PM – Pick: West Ham United @ 6/4

It is now eight games without a win for Reading and confidence must be extremely low in the camp, so a victory is needed here to try and lift the spirits.

In truth, this is a must win for the Royals as well as they are on home soil to a team that currently sit in the bottom half of the Premier League.

Brian McDermott’s side have only managed to score two goals in their last five and that came in the 5-2 defeat to Arsenal. If they are to survive in the Premier League, they have to start scoring and tighten things up at the back.

West Ham did not play on Boxing Day, so might come into this one refreshed and do need the points themselves after a bit of a poor run.

Sam Allardyce is aware of how demanding this league can be and will be sending his men out to claim all a win here to ease the pressure on themselves.

Stoke City v Southampton – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Stoke City @ 4/5

Jonathan-Walters-Dec-29Stoke are one of the form teams in the league at the moment as they are now on a nine game unbeaten run in the top flight.

The Potters have been superb at home once more this campaign and are still unbeaten at the Britannia Stadium.

Tony Pulis is sure to be expecting another three points from his men here as they are on their own turf and against a Southampton side that do not travel well.

The Saints have won just once away from home, but know they might need something here as they are just one point clear of the bottom three.

They do have Rickie Lambert at their disposal though, who has notched seven Premier League goals and likely to be a key man in this one from the away team.

Extra Tip – Stoke to win 1-0 @ 11/2

Arsenal v Newcastle United – Saturday 5.30PM – Pick: Arsenal @ 4/6

This has the makings of being a superb 90 minute of action between two teams that can play some of the best attacking football in the league on their day.

Arsenal were the other side to not play on Boxing Day and although they will feel fresh, they are also now three points away from the top four.

After winning their last three in the Premier League though, the Gunners are confident and can come into this once expecting all three points.

The tough games just keep on coming for Newcastle and although they put up a great fight against Manchester United – still left with nothing – meaning they might have to take something from this one.

The Magpies are now just five points clear of the bottom three and with three defeats in their last four, are struggling for any sort of form.

This should be a great way to round off the action on Saturday.

Extra Tip – Arsenal to win 2-1 @ 13/2

Everton v Chelsea – Sunday 1.30PM – Pick: Draw @ 23/10

Ramires-Dec-29The early kick-off on Sunday looks like being yet another cracker between two in-form sides.

Everton are only out of the top four on goal difference and have not tasted defeat in seven matches. With this being at Goodison Park as well, the Toffee’s will fancy their chances of claiming a victory.

David Moyes of course knows what a strong side Chelsea are, but he has installed a confidence in his men and they believe that they can beat anyone in this league.

Rafael Benitez is becoming more popular with the Chelsea faithful each week and last time out, the Blues claimed their third straight victory in the Premier League.

They are now just four points off Manchester City in second, so will make catching them their next aim.

It will be a tough 90 minutes for the Blues, but they have the players with the ability to take all three points.

Queens Park Rangers v Liverpool – Sunday 4PM – Pick: Queens Park Rangers @ 3/1

The final game of the weekend sees two sides with very different ambitions lock horns as Queens Park Rangers, who are fighting for their lives, take on a Liverpool team that sit in tenth.

Rangers had their first win of the season earlier in the month, but have followed that up with two straight defeats, something that is sure to have infuriated Harry Redknapp.

Make no doubt about it, this game is a must win for QPR, even if it is against a team of Liverpool’s quality.

The Reds have been extremely inconsistent this season and went down 3-1 at Stoke City on Boxing Day.

They have to now bounce back and if they can take an early lead here, might do enough to silence the crowd and then go on to have a comfortable afternoon.

It looks to be a cracking way to finish another superb weekend of action in the English Premier League.
