FA Cup Fifth Round Match Previews & Betting Tips

by Scott

The FA Cup fifth round takes place this week and with the entertainment we have been given in this tournament so far, it should be a cracking couple of days in the most famous domestic club competition the world has to offer.

There is also one fourth round replay getting underway, with Chelsea hosting Brentford on Sunday and also a Premier League fixture between Swansea City and Liverpool. So, we are going to look at all of the matches this weekend.

Luton Town v Millwall – Saturday 12.45PM – Pick: Draw @ 12/5

Rendell-FAC5Two fourth-round giant-killers meets at Kenilworth Road in the early kick-off on Saturday as Luton Town host Millwall.

The Hatters knocked-out Norwich City of the Premier League last time out and became the first non-league team to win at a top flight club since 1989.

Now they are on home soil against a team from the Championship, Luton are sure to be confident of another upset and making it through to the quarter-finals, which would be an astonishing achievement.

Millwall were winners over Aston Villa at the New Den and despite Luton’s superb performance in Norfolk, should be confident they have too much for their opponents here.

Kenny Jackett knows just what an FA Cup run can do for confidence in the squad and if his men are able to reach the final eight, it might give them the belief that they can finish in the top six in the league this campaign.

These two sides are not fond of each other either, so we should be in for a cracking tie to kick-start the weekend.

Arsenal v Blackburn – Saturday – 3PM – Pick: Arsenal @ 2/7

Arsenal will be pleased with the draw they have been given as they take on Blackburn Rovers at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners took on Rovers in the Premier League last campaign and were 7-1 winners, so they are sure to be in good spirits coming into this one.

Arsene Wenger knows he has to start delivering silverware to the club after eight-years without a trophy and with the FA Cup being their best chance of success, it is not a tournament to be taken lightly.

As for Blackburn, they come into this one on the back of two straight wins in the Championship, but know how tough it is going to be for them on Saturday afternoon.

Michael Appleton can send his side into this encounter with the pressure off though as nothing is expected of them.

If they get the service right for goal-machine Jordan Rhodes, you never know what might happen.

Extra Tip – Arsenal to win 4-1 @ 14/1

MK Dons v Barnsley – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Barnsley @ 23/10

Traore-FAC5Both of these two have upset the odds in making it to the fifth round as MK Dons were 4-2 winners at Queens Park Rangers in the previous round and Barnsley went to Hull City and took the game 1-0.

Despite the Dons being a division below their opponents here, they are considered as the slight favourites as Barnsley are in the relegation zone in the Championship.

However, the Yorkshire side have won their last four games across all competitions, so are certainly in good form right now.

They also have added experienced players such as Jason Scotland and Rory Delap recently, so should be able to reach the quarter-finals on Saturday afternoon.

Stadium MK can produce a superb atmosphere on big match days and that is sure to be the case this weekend.

Both sides will feel as though they can win as well, so it should be a cracker.

Oldham Athletic v Everton – Saturday 6PM – Pick: Everton @ 1/3

Oldham can do the Merseyside double in the FA Cup this weekend after their fantastic victory over Liverpool in the fourth round at Boundary Park last time out.

Paul Dickov was the man in charge of the League One outfit then though and he has since left the club following poor results in the league.

Tony Philliskirk is the caretaker boss and is likely to take charge this weekend, so knows he has to get the players in the right frame of mind to cause another famous upset.

Everton look like they are desperate to win the FA Cup this campaign and they are not going to be taking Oldham lightly after their win over Liverpool.

David Moyes is sure to play his big guns in this one – such as Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines – as without them, the Toffees might struggle.

If at their best, this will be a stroll in the park for Everton, but the hosts will do all they can to stop the Premier League club playing their natural game.

Extra Tip – Everton to win 2-1 @ 15/2

Chelsea v Brentford (4th Round Replay) Sunday 12PM – Pick: Chelsea @ 1/7

Demba-FAC5With Chelsea in Europa League action on Thursday, they were not able to play this replay in mid-week, so take on Brentford on Sunday afternoon.

Rafael Benitez was bitterly disappointed that his men couldn’t win this one at the first time of asking and with such a busy month coming up, he might need to rest his key men here.

With the cup upsets we have seen this season though, they cannot afford to be at all complacent, especially with how much Brentford are going to be up for this encounter.

The B’s will come and attack and look to get the home fans on Chelsea’s backs straight away. They will also bring a lot of supporters themselves and hope they can act as a twelfth man on Sunday.

It should be an enthralling cup tie between these two West London sides, but one that the European Champions have to win.

Extra Tip – Chelsea to win 2-0 @ 7/1

Manchester City v Leeds United – Sunday 2PM – Pick: Draw @ 6/1

This looks like being one of the pick of the fixtures in the FA Cup fifth round as Manchester City host Leeds United.

There is always something special about Leeds taking on a Premier League team in the cup and this is no exception.

Neil Warnock’s men knocked-out Tottenham Hotspur in the previous round, so know what it takes to beat one of the best teams in England.

However, as this is at the Etihad Stadium, Leeds have to raise their game once more.

Manchester City are not in great spirits though as they have all but lost their Premier League title to Manchester United.

The FA Cup might be their only chance of silverware this year, so Roberto Mancini cannot afford to rest players. A win here is vital, anything else could leave the Italian under a lot of pressure at the Etihad.

However you look at it, an enthralling 90 minutes awaits.

Manchester United v Reading – Monday 8PM – Pick: Manchester United @ 2/9

Hernandez-FAC5The final game in the FA Cup is on Monday evening and it sees Manchester United host Reading at Old Trafford.

United have now had to take on Premier League opposition in all three rounds they have been involved in, so they have certainly been tested.

Nothing other than a comfortable win for the Red Devils will be expected though, especially with the way they have been playing recently.

Reading have shown good form in the Premier League this campaign, but are in a massive relegation battle and the FA Cup is not their priority.

Brian McDermott is still likely to go all out for the win here, but he could rest a number of key men ahead of a huge month for the club.

With United on home soil, it is tough to look past them reaching the final eight of this compeition.

Extra Tip – Manchester United to win 3-0 @ 15/2

Liverpool v Swansea City (Premier League) – Sunday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 3/1

There is one Premier League game taking place this weekend and Liverpool will be looking to bounce back from their defeat to West Bromwich Albion on Monday with all three points over Swansea City.

This game sees Brendan Rodgers take on his former club of course and as the Reds are now twelve points behind a Champions League spot – three points are vital.

Daniel Sturridge is ready to return to action after being sidelined with an injury on Monday and he might prove to be the key man here.

Swansea come the Anfield full of confidence and with the Capital One Cup final just round the corner, it is all about momentum.

Miguel Michu added another two goals in the 4-1 thumping of QPR over the weekend, so is in fine form and likely to still the ball in the back of the net if given the chance.

With the way both of these sides like to play their football, it should be a cracking match.
