La Liga Week 7 Betting Odds & Match Predictions 2012/13

by Scott

Once again it was another superb weekend in La Liga, with some big score-line on show last time out.

In fact, there was not a single goalless draw and five out of the ten matches saw four goals or more.

This weekend, it is the big one, as El Clasico takes place on Sunday evening and it is sure to be a cracking game that has a big say on the title race, even at this early stage of the campaign.

However, it is not the only big game on show this time out as there are a number of encounters that are set to be crackers, so let’s look ahead to what is in store.

Celta Vigo v Sevilla – Friday 8:30PM – Pick: Sevilla @ 6/4

The action all gets underway on Friday evening as these two teams that sit at different ends of the table go head-to-head.

Celta Vigo are currently 14th and they would have been disappointed to have gone down 2-1 at Granada last weekend.

They will know that if they lost here they could end the weekend in the bottom three, but with it being the first match in this round of fixtures, have a chance of heading into the top eight – which shows just how tight the league is.

As for Sevilla, they very nearly got something from their game against Barcelona, but in the end suffered their first defeat of the campaign.

Now they must dust themselves down and prepare Friday evening’s match. They can really pile the pressure on third place Malaga with a victory.

With the two sides searching for the points for different reasons, this should kick-start the La Liga action with a bang.

Rayo Vallecano v Deportivo la Coruna – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 23/10

Rayo Vallecano are on a bit of a downward spiral after losing their last three matches despite a promising start in La Liga.

Each defeat has seen them slip further down the table and they could be involved in a relegation battle this season.

They went 1-0 up in their last match, but ending up on the end of a 6-1 thrashing, so need to tighten up at the back and try to take something on Saturday.

As for Deportivo, they were another team who were comprehensively beaten over the weekend, but it is slightly more forgivable as they were playing Real Madrid at the Bernabeu.

Deportivo are hovering just a point above the relegation zone, meaning this is a game they need to take something from.

Confidence is sure to be low in both camps, so this could be nervy, but intriguing encounter.

Real Zaragoza v Getafe – Saturday 5PM – Pick: Real Zaragoza @ 13/10

This match is between two sides that have been fairly inconsistent so far in La Liga, it is difficult to know just what they can achieve in the 2012/13 campaign.

Just one point separates Zaragoza and Getafe, and if either of them can get a good run of form going, you will see them climb up the table.

The away side do come into this on the back of a victory though, so are in the better for, right now.

However, the Zaragoza always seem to pick up a win just when they need too, making this one a very tough one to call.

With games against Sevilla and Real Madrid coming up, Zaragoza will be looking at this one as their most winnable game in the coming weeks.

Extra Tip – Zaragoza to win 2-1 @ 8/1

Real Valladolid v Espanyol – Saturday 7PM – Pick: Real Valladolid @ 10/11

This is certainly a game between two sides in very different spirits at the moment. Valladolid come into this one after a 6-1 victory, which ended their run of three straight defeats.

Another home game for Valladolid is ideal for them and they could even sneak into the top four by the time the final whistle goes on Saturday evening.

On the other hand, it has been a shocking start to the season for Espanyol and they currently sit rock bottom of the La Liga table and it is tough to see where the next points are coming from.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men have lost their last two matches by one goal to nil, so they have not been leaking goals at the back. It is going forward that has been their problem and one of Espanyol’s front men must start hitting the back of the net.

If not, it could be second tier football for them next season.

Extra Tip – Valladolid to win 2-0 @ 15/2

Real Betis v Real Sociedad – Saturday 9PM – Pick: Draw @ 23/10

Both Betis and Sociedad have had very similar starts to the campaign, they have each won three matches and sit on nine points apiece.

It is Sociedad’s slightly superior goal different that sees them in eighth place, whereas Betis are in ninth.

So this does look to be a very evenly matched battle, but it is the away side that come into it in a better mood as they won their last game, whereas the hosts have suffered back-to-back defeats.

Betis will know that another loss could mean that they slide down the table even further and start to look over their shoulders.

However, the visitors have lost both of their matches on their travels so far in La Liga – so are sure to find it tough here once again.

Levante v Valencia – Sunday 11AM – Pick: Levante @ 5/2

Levante cannot seem to get any kind of momentum going right now as each time they have been victorious, they are then defeated in the next match.

This will frustrate the fans at the club as they know the team are capable of picking up wins, but they are not doing it consistently.

If they could take all three points against La Liga giants Valencia then it would surly kick-start their season and may be the beginning of a good run in the league.

Beating Valencia does not come easily though and the points mean just as much to them at this early stage.

Their aim will be to break into the top four this campaign and if that is to happen, then it is on the road where they need to pick up points.

Valencia need to end their poor form away from home as it has been eight games since they won on their travels in the Spanish top flight.

Mallorca v Granada – Sunday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 5/2

Mallorca will be delighted with their opening six matches of the season as they currently sit in fifth place and look as though they can be contenders for a place in the top four.

They will however be disappointed with their defeat to Getafe last time out as they were architects of their own downfall – playing 80 minutes of the match with ten men after a sending off.

Mallorca must now bounce back quickly and put another victory on the board to show what a strong outfit they are this year.

Granada breathed a huge sigh of relief when they picked up their first win of the season last time out.

It has been a long-time coming for Granada, but these three points also saw them move out of the bottom three.

With both of these now sure to be in decent spirits, this game could have plenty of goals and is one to keep an eye on.

Athletic Bilbao v Osasuna – Sunday 5PM – Pick: Athletic Bilbao @ 5/6

It was a superb season for Bilbao last time out as they made both the Copa Del Rey and Europa League final.

However, this campaign has not started well at all and they find themselves in the relegation zone knowing that this weekend’s match is a much win and a six-pointer at the foot of the table.

The side from the Basque Country go up against Osasuna, who sit just one point below them at the moment, but come into the game in an upbeat mood after clinching their first victory over the weekend with a 4-0 drubbing of Levante.

On paper, Bilbao should have the players to come out on top in this one – but they have been far from near the high standards set last season so far.

This is one of the biggest games in La Liga this week and it should be a very entertaining 90 minutes.

Barcelona v Real Madrid – Sunday 6:50PM – Pick: Barcelona @ 3/4

This is of course the fixture that all eyes will be on as the two biggest sides in Spanish football and bitter rivals, Barcelona and Real Madrid lock horns at the Nou Camp.

El Clasico is one of the most watched matches across the world and it does not look like it will disappoint with so much at stake in this one.

Barcelona have the opportunity to open up a huge eleven point gap, which even at this early stage of the season could be too much for Real to catch.

Of course the incentive is there for Jose Mourinho’s men as much as it is for Tito Vilanova’s, and the current La Liga champions will be looking for a similar result to their 2-1 victory at the Nou Camp last season, which all but clinched the title.

Add to all this the fact that both Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo will be in action, then this really is one of the most eagerly anticipated El Clasico matches for some tip.

Extra Tip – Barcelona to win 4-3 @ 66/1

Atletico Madrid v Malaga – Sunday 8:30PM – Pick: Draw @ 11/4

The action does not end with El Clasico as another superb looking fixture rounds of the La Liga weekend.

Atletico Madrid, who sit in second place at the moment host third placed Malaga in a massive game for both sides.

Athletico have shown that when at their best they can take anyone on and they really could be a title contender this year.

Much of this is down to them having the man who is keeping Messi and Ronaldo out of the headlines at the moment – Radamel Falcao as he has already scored seven goals this campaign.

As for Malaga, some doubted whether they would be able to emulate the success of last season where they broke into the top four, but they have started very well indeed.

This will be their toughest game of the season so far, but after a 4-0 victory last time out, Malaga will be full of confidence.

This looks to be a fitting end to another superb weekend in the Spanish top flight.
