La Liga Round 20 Match Odds & Betting Tips

by Thomas

After the winter break, the La Liga season is back into full swing and teams are really starting to click again.

When it comes to quality on the ball and the style of football, nothing beats this Spanish top flight, so we should be in for another cracking weekend of action.

So, let’s see which clubs are going head-to-head this time out.

Espanyol v Mallorca – Friday 8PM – Pick: Mallorca @ 3/1

Victor-Casadesus-Round20Kicking the action off on Friday evening is a real six-pointer at the bottom of the La Liga table. Espanyol moved out of the bottom three with a win last weekend, whereas Mallorca’s defeat meant they dropped into the relegation zone.

There is just one point separating these two though, so the away side know that they can overhaul their opponents with a victory.

Espanyol have started to show a bit of form in recent weeks with two wins from three matches. With how tight things are at the bottom, a couple of wins can really move you out of trouble.

Mallorca come here with confidence low again after a defeat at Real Valladolid. They have to bounce back straight away, especially as this is such a massive game.

It is sure to be 90 minutes that you don’t want to take your eyes off.

Granada v Rayo Vallecano – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 23/10

With Mallorca in action on Friday, Granada could be in the drop zone by the time they kick-off on Saturday, so the pressure is sure to be on.

They take on Rayo Vallecano, who secured their fourth straight victory last time out, which means they are full of confidence right now.

With the way that Vallecano are performing right now, they are sure to have a European spot on their minds, especially if they claim all three points here. At the moment, they sit in sixth and could move level with fourth place if they make it five wins from five.

Although the away team are in good form, Granada know that they are beatable, so should come out and attack in this one.

If the hosts get an early goal, we should be in for a cracking match.

Real Sociedad v Barcelona – Saturday 5PM – Pick: Barcelona @ 1/4

Another weekend means that Barcelona will probably be claiming another three points – that is how it seems to work at the moment.

Barca head to Real Sociedad on Saturday evening and although they know it will not be an easy match, they will be expecting to take another win back to the Nou Camp with them.

The football that the league-leaders played in their 3-1 win at Malaga on Sunday was breathtaking at times and if they put in a similar performance here, they are sure to score plenty of goals.

Sociedad come into this one sitting comfortably in mid-table and as they know nothing is expected of them, the pressure is off.

They have to try and give Barcelona a game though, as tough as that might be. In truth, the hosts might just be looking to avoid a hiding.

A win for the visitors would see them move 14 points clear at the top.

Extra Tip – Barcelona to win 3-1 @ 9/1

Getafe v Sevilla – Saturday 7PM – Pick: Draw @ 12/5

Juan-Rodriguez-Round20These two sides sit in seventh and eighth position respectively in La Liga and Sevilla can draw level with Getafe if they claim all three points.

Neither side are in any sort of form though as Getafe has not won in five ands Sevilla have only been victorious once in their last seven matches, so this could be quite a cagey affair.

They each have the squads capable of moving up the table, but seem to be lacking confidence at the moment, so a victroy here might be what is needed.

Sevilla are extremely disappointed with their campaign and their hopes of a European place fade after each poor result.

These matches between clubs with not much confidence can sometimes mean goals, so let’s hope that is the case for this one.

Malaga v Celta Vigo – Saturday 9PM – Pick: Malaga @ 8/13

Malaga’s back-to-back defeats have seen them move out of the top four, so they have to return to winning ways this weekend with a victory over Celta Vigo, who need the points themselves, but for very different reasons.

The home side shouldn’t be too downbeat about their defeat to Barcelona as they were simply outclassed by one of the best teams in the world.

They have to respond straight away though and show what strong character they have in the squad.

Celta are in 15th place, but just a point off the relegation zone, which shows you just how tight things are in the fight for survival.

They know it is going to take a massive performance to get a result here, especially with Malaga really needing the points, but have the players capable of causing plenty of problems.

This could be one of the games of the weekend on Saturday evening.

Extra Tip – Malaga to win 2-0 @ 7/1

Osasuna v Deportivo La Coruna – Sunday 11AM – Pick: Osasuna @ 11/12

Osasuna take on Deportivo La Coruna in what is another massive battle at the bottom of La Liga. These two are in 19th and 20th respectively right now and know that they need a result here.

The onus will be on Osasuna to come out and attack as they are the home side, but Deportivo are searching for all three points themselves.

If results go their way, either side could move out of the bottom three with a win, so the incentive is there to take the points.

Deportivo are the team in better form right now after a win and a draw in their last two matches, so they might have a bit more confidence.

However, Osasuna managed to draw with Real Madrid last time out, so showed the quality they do have in their side.

It should be a fascinating watch on Sunday morning.

Extra Tip – Osasuna to win 2-1 @ 8/1

Real Valladolid v Real Zaragoza – Sunday 4PM – Pick: Draw @ 5/2

Patrick-Ebert-Round20These two sides are sitting comfortably in mid-table right now and know that they are not likely to be in a relegation battle this season, which would have been the aim for the campaign.

Now, they can both start looking up the table rather than over their shoulders and Valladolid come into this one on the back of their first win in five matches, so will be hoping that they can now go on a good run in the league.

Zaragoza have lost their last two though, so need a result to ensure they can maintain a healthy gap between themselves and the teams fighting to stay in La Liga.

Both play superb football on their day, but have been very inconsistent throughout the season, so it is a tough one to call.

Atletico Madrid v Levante – Sunday 6PM – Pick: Atletico Madrid @ 1/3

Atletico Madrid have 44 points from 19 games, which is a superb effort and on any other year would mean they were challenging for the title.

However, the brilliance of Barcelona has meant that they are in a fight for second and at the moment, the side from the capital are seven points clear of local rivals, Real Madrid.

Another win is required here, but it is sure to be a tough 90 minutes as Levante sit in the top eight and have been no strangers to causing an upset this term.

The away team have fallen off the pace a little bit in recent weeks though as they have lost two out of their last three.

These two sides have been known for their attacking football this season, so we should be in for a cracker here.

If Radamel Falcao continues his fine form, then Atletico should come out on top.

Extra Tip – Atletico Madrid to win 3-0 @ 13/2

Valencia v Real Madrid – Sunday 8PM – Pick: Valencia @ 7/2

Things aren’t getting any better for Real Madrid in La Liga this season as they went to bottom of the table Osasuna last weekend and couldn’t even find the net and ended up drawing 0-0.

Jose Mourinho seems to be confused by the performances of his side and they come to Valencia on Sunday knowing that finishing in second place is going to be tough.

In truth, the Portuguese might already be turning his attention to knockout stages of the Champions League.

As for Valencia, the know that there is not a better time to play the La Liga champions than right now and with this being on home soil, they could spring a surprise.

There is no doubt that the hosts have the personal at their disposal towin this one, but a big performance is needed, even if Real are not at their best.

These two have produced some classics over the years and this is sure to be no exception.

Real Betis v Athletic Bilbao – Monday 8.30PM – Pick: Real Betis @ 5/6

Mikel-San-Jose-Round20Rounding-off the weekend’s action is a game on Monday night between Real Betis and Athletic Bilbao.

Betis have taken advantage of Malaga’s poor results and claimed back-to-back victories, which has seen them move into fourth position.

With this being the last game of the weekend, they could be out of a Champions League spot by kick- off, so another win is needed.

Bilbao do not come here with any confidence as they have lost their last three matches, which is not the start to the year they wanted.

It looks like being another tough evening for them and in this kind of form, they could be dragged into a relegation fight.

It is another eagerly anticipated encounter in this superb weekend of La Liga action.

Extra Tip – Betis to win 3-2 @ 25/1
