La Liga Round 24 Match Odds, Previews &Tips

by Scott on February 14, 2013

Once again, there is a full list of La Liga fixtures to look forward to this weekend and as ever, we are sure to be some cracking football.

The title race is all but over with Barcelona twelve points clear at the top, but all other significant places in the league look like going right to the wire.

So, let’s see which teams are locking horns this weekend.

Sevilla v Deportivo La Coruna – Friday 8.30PM – Pick: Sevilla @ 4/11

Manu-Del-Moral-R24Sevilla’s hopes of landing a European place this campaign were dealt a big blow last time out as they took on Real Madrid and went down 4-1.

Now though , they can put some pressure on the teams above them if they claim all three points at home to Deportivo La Coruna, something they should do comfortably.

Sevilla had won two games in a row prior to the defeat at Real Madrid and they would have been slightly disappointed to have conceded as many goals as they did.

There don’t seem to be many better teams to take on that Deportivo after a heavy defeat though as they have lost their last four and sit rock bottom of La Liga.

If the away side are to get themselves out of trouble, they have to start winning matches and in truth, a big result is needed here.

Extra Tip – Sevilla to win 2-0 @ 11/2

Getafe v Celta Vigo – Saturday 3PM – Pick: Draw @ 23/10

Getafe and Celta Vigo are two teams out of form at the moment and when they meet this weekend, it might be a fairly nervy affair.

Getafe are the team sitting in a better position in the league though as they are in twelfth and nine points clear of their opponents, who sit in the final relegation spot at the moment.

The hosts leaked six goals against Barcelona last time out and although they were expected to lose, the manager would have been fuming that they completely capitulated against the league-leaders.

They have to bounce back this weekend as another defeat might leave them looking over their shoulders.

Celta Vigo haven’t won in five now, which is a disappointing run of form as they had looked like going on a bit of a run in the league.

They can move out of the bottom three for a few hours at least with a win here, so that will be just what they are after.

Malaga v Athletic Bilbao – Saturday 5PM – Pick: Malaga @ 10/11

Isco-R24Malaga have now gone on a four-game unbeaten run in La Liga and that has seen them move two points clear in fourth position.

They seem to have an ability to churn out results at the moment and the 2-1 win at Levante was a fantastic three points.

Malaga host Athletic Bilbao on Saturday and although they know that their opponents are a very good side on their day, will still be confident of taking the spoils.

Bilbao fans must be pulling their hair out after recent performances as the Basque Country club had gone three games without defeat, but then went down 4-0 at home to Espanyol.

The result put them right back in the mix in terms of the relegation battle and it simply wasn’t a good enough performance.

If both teams perform how they can here, it will be a scintillating 90 minutes of attacking football.

Extra Tip – Malaga to win 3-1 @ 12/1

Granada v Barcelona – Saturday 7PM – Pick: Barcelona @ 1/4

Granada are the team that have to try and work out how to beat Barcelona this weekend and they might be glad they are six points clear of the bottom three, so even a defeat won’t mean they head into the drop zone.

The home side are in decent form at the moment as well as they have won three of their last four matches and have kept a clean sheet in each of those victories.

Granada know that this is going to be a very tough evening for them, but they should also be confident of taking something from Barca, especially as they may have one eye on their Champions League encounter during the week.

Tito Vilanova is not a man who allows complacency though and even if he does rest some key members of his squad, he will fully expect all three points here.

The Catalan giants have all but secured the title and if they continue to win matches, it will not be long before they are mathematically out of sight.

Extra Tip – Barcelona to win 3-1 @ 9/1

Osasuna v Real Zaragoza – Saturday 9PM – Pick: Zaragoza @ 3/1

Apono-R24Real Zaragoza make the journey to Osasuna in the final game on Saturday evening and this is a big battle between two teams hovering just above the bottom three right now.

Osasuna might even be in the relegation zone by the time this one gets underway, so three points could be vital for them.

They are the form team coming into this one as well after taking four points for their last two La Liga encounters.

Zaragoza, on the other hand, are struggling to pick up results and they are in freefall at the moment.

It has now been six matches since they last claimed a win and they know if that sort of form continues, it could be a devastating season for them.

With both sides desperate for a result here, it should be an intriguing watch.

Real Sociedad v Levante – Sunday 11AM – Pick: Draw @ 23/10

Real Sociedad’s recent good form has seen them move to within just three points of the Champions League places, so they are full of confidence right now.

Sociedad have now gone unbeaten in their last five La Liga matches and have a habit of picking up points at the moment.

As this game is at home, against a team just below then, it is another must win for the hosts and if they continue their recent good performances, they should come out on top here.

Levante know that they need a result to get their season back on track as they are on a bit of a downward spiral at the moment.

They have now lost four of their last five, which isn’t good enough, especially if they want to land a European spot this campaign.

It should be a thrilling match to get Sunday’s action underway.

Valencia v Mallorca – Sunday 4PM – Pick: Valencia @ 2/5

Valencia have now gone three games unbeaten and moved to within touching distance of the top four. They host Mallorca on Sunday, so all three points are expected.

The Spanish giants do have to bounce back from a disappointing evening in the Champions League on Tuesday though as they went down to Paris Saint Germain.

However, as long as they put in a half-decent performance here, then a win is what they will get as Mallorca really aren’t a strong team at the moment.

The away side come here knowing the odds will be stacked against them and that is no surprise considering they have just 18 points in La Liga right now.

Mallorca have to start showing some good form in order to get out of relegation trouble, but it is going to be tough for them to take anything here.

Extra Tip – Valencia to win 2-0 @ 7/1

Real Valladolid v Atletico Madrid – Sunday 6PM – Pick: Draw @ 9/4

Falcao-R24Atletico Madrid make the journey to Real Valladolid in what should be one of the pick of the fixtures La Liga this weekend.

Atletico sit in second place and have to win here to make sure Real Madrid don’t close the gap on them, whereas Valladolid haven’t won in three and need a result to put the pressure on the top six.

Diego Simeone would have been fuming with the performance of his side last time out as they went down 2-1 and Rayo Vallecano.

A response is needed straight away and with Radamel Falcao looking to be in form again, Atletico should come out on top here.

Valladolid are far from an easy side to beat though, but they have been on a bit of a poor run and might be dreading this somewhat.

Whichever way you look at it, a superb 90 minutes awaits.

Espanyol v Real Betis – Sunday 8PM – Pick: Real Betis @ 5/2

When you consider that Espanyol were in the bottom three a few weeks ago, it is remarkable that they now sit eight points clear of the drop zone.

They have won four out of their last five matches in the league and now will be looking towards the top half of the table.

Espanyol know that Real Betis are a very god side, but with the football they have been playing in recent weeks, they won’t fear anyone in this league.

Betis have struggled in 2013 as well as they haven’t won in four and have seen their Champions League hopes fade with each game they have failed to win.

However, Betis are a team that never know when to lie down and you can be sure they will go all out for the win here and hope it sparks their campaign back into life.

Real Madrid v Rayo Vallecano – Sunday 8PM – Pick: Real Madrid @ 1/6

Finally, Real Madrid host Rayo Vallecano in what should be a fitting way to round-off the weekend’s action.

Real have blown hot and cold too much this season, but they can still have high hopes of landing second place in La Liga.

Jose Mourinho’s men might be a little big fatigued from their Champions League tie on Wednesday evening, but the Portuguese will still expect a comfortable evening here.

Vallecano continue to win their home matches, but often lose away, so they might be dreading this trip to the Bernabeu.

There is no doubt they are a top quality side though that on their day, can be a match for anyone in La Liga.

With both sides loving to play attacking football, it should be a superb encounter.

Extra Tip – Real Madrid to win 3-0 @ 10/1
