Detroit Titans vs. Kansas Jayhawks Picks, Spread, and Review

KansasvsTitans

The Kansas Jayhawks and Detroit Titans should be one of the most intriguing 2nd round match-ups. The Jayhawks are a #2 seed while the Titans were given a #15 seed in the Midwest Region. Kansas opened as -12 point favourites, but has already been bet up early to -15 point favorites at most sportsbooks. Hitting the lines early is imperative during March Madness because the lines will only get sharper closer to tip-off.

Kansas played poorly in the Big 12 conference tournament this past week and lost to Baylor in the semi-finals, but the Jayhawks have built up a solid resume this season. Kansas is 27-6 with a 16-2 record against the Big 12. The only bad loss that Kansas has this year is a loss against Davidson (80-74) before Christmas. Thomas Robinson (17.9PPG) and Tyshawn Taylor (17.3PPG) are the two leaders on this Jayhawks team and they need to perform well if the Jayhawks are going to win, let alone cover.

Detroit Titans are fresh off their conference championship victory in the Horizon League. The Titans are led by the coach’s son Ray McCallum (15.6PPG) although the team has plenty of other natural scorers. Four other players on the Titans also averaged over 10 PPG this season, so I don’t think either team is going to have a problem putting up points.

The Titans averaged 72.8 PPG this year while the Jayhawks put up an average of 75 PPG on offense. Kansas also had the better defense, as they gave up an average of 61.9 PPG compared to the Titans defense giving up an average of 67.6 PPG. Kansas had to play a way tougher schedule as well, so the stats are a little deceiving to say the least.

Kansas is going to be able to own the boards in this game, as the Titans have been brutal on the boards. The Jayhawks have a lot of size and will be able to pick up a lot of rebounds. The big question you need to ask is whether or not Kansas can outscore the Titans by more than the -15 point spread. I think Detroit is one of the best #15 seeds I’ve seen in the tourney for years and I’ll gladly take the underdog to stay within the spread.

Bet the Detroit Titans at +15
