Florida vs Marquette Picks, Spread, and Review

Florida (25-10 SU/14-15 ATS) routed upstart Norfolk State last Sunday in an 84-50 win as -14 point favorites. Kenny Boynton led the way with 20 points, eight rebounds and four assists to lead the Gators into the Sweet 16. Erving Walker added 15 points, Bradley Beal scored 14 points and grabbed nine boards and Erik Murphy had 10 points and eight rebounds for the Gators, who led by as many as 36 points. Mike Rosario rounded out the double-digit scorers with 12 points. The Gators posted a 53.3 percent field-goal shooting mark in the first half, including making 7-of-16 from beyond the arc, while holding the Spartans to 25.8 percent from the floor and 16.7 percent on three-point attempts en route to a commanding 47-19 halftime advantage. After trailing by as many as 32 early in the second half, Norfolk State got back to within 25 points at 59-34 midway through the frame, but Florida scored 10 of the next 14 and the Spartans got no closer. The Gators finished shooting 52.8 percent (28-of-53) from the field. Florida is 17-2 in NCAA tournament games since 2005-06. Combined with their 71-45 win over Virginia on Friday, the Gators left Omaha with two wins by a total margin of 60 points.

Marquette (27-7 SU/18-12-1 ATS) knocked off Murray State last Saturday in a 62-53 win as -5 point favorites. Jae Crowder notched his second double-double of the 2012 NCAA Tournament with 17 points and 13 rebounds to punch Marquette’s ticket to the Sweet 16 with a win and cover over Murray State in a third-round West Region bout. Darius Johnson-Odom added 17 points, while Junior Cadougan and Todd Mayo scored eight points apiece for third-seeded Marquette, which will head to the Sweet 16 for the second time in as many years. Trailing 46-41 in the second half, the Golden Eagles responded with a decisive 14-2 run to assume control of the game. Murray State finished the game a woeful 4-of-21 from three-point range, while Marquette ended slightly better at 4-of-15. Marquette defeated Syracuse in 2011 to advance to Sweet 16. Marquette also made it to the regional semifinals last year before getting routed by North Carolina and many expect them to go further this year now that Missouri has been eliminated. Florida is 58-32 ATS in all tournament games and 59-41 ATS on a neutral court.

The Gators are also 9-3-1 ATS as an underdog and 8-3 ATS against Big East teams. However, Marquette is 8-2 ATS as a favorite of -6½ points or less and 4-1 ATS in NCAA Tourney games, as well as 44-25 ATS against winning teams, including 30-15 ATS against winning teams in the second half of the season.
