Kansas Jayhawks vs. Purdue Boilermakers Picks

Kansas Jayhawks did what they had to do in order to beat the Detroit Titans in round 2. The #2 seeded Jayhawks won 65-50 and the score could have been even worse. In what I still feel was a shocker, the Boilermakers knocked off #7 seed St Mary’s 72-69, as a late Gaels scoring run wasn’t enough to win them the game.

You could feel the disappointment on the Gaels players’ faces when the final buzzer sounded. Purdue didn’t shoot overly well in the game, as they ended up going 45.6% from the field and 5 of 16 from 3-point distance. Terone Johnson scored 21 points and Hummel picked up 7 rebounds for Purdue.

Robbie Hummel is the leader on this Purdue team and he’ll have his team ready to go tomorrow. Thomas Robinson led Kansas to a win over Detroit last night, as he recorded a double-double (16 Points & 13 Rebounds). Kansas shot pretty well from the field and 3-point distance last night, but they did struggle on the free throw line.

It didn’t cost Kansas last night, but going 14-23 on the charity stripe will kill you down the stretch in close games. Kansas in my mind is just too big and powerful for the Boilermakers to handle. St Mary’s was a good team, but they rely on their small guards to shoot the lights out, which doesn’t happen every game as we all witnessed.

Detroit shot very poorly against Kansas and a lot of that was due to very good defence. The Jayhawks know that they can make a run this year and they won’t take the Boilermakers lightly. Kansas has such a big presence down low and I think they’ll have no problem outscoring the Boilermakers.

The point spread in the game right now is -8 for Kansas, which I think is pretty sharp. The Jayhawks should win this game by double digits, but with such a high spread you always got to watch for the backdoor cover. I’m leaning towards Kansas, but I’ll probably avoid betting this game until the 2nd half if I bet this game at all tomorrow.

The Jayhawks made 5 3-pointers against the Titans, but Releford struggled and only went 1-5 from beyond the arc. If Releford is hitting his shot tomorrow then the Jayhawks have the potential to run away with this game. We know Kansas will get their points in the paint, but to cover an -8 point spread they’ll need to hit 7-8 3-pointers.
