Kentucky Wildcats vs. Kansas Jayhawks Picks

The 2012 NCAAB Championship will be between the Kentucky Wildcats and Kansas Jayhawks. Kentucky beat Louisville 69-61 in a game that played out similarly to their regular season match-up that ended 69-62. Kansas played their best game of the tourney in the Final Four against the Buckeyes and came out on top 64-62 in an extremely close game down to the wire.

Kentucky Wildcats vs. Kansas Jayhawks Preview

This year we’re going to have one of the best championship games in recent memory in my opinion. Both teams are playing at an elite level right now and either team could come away with the championship tomorrow night. We’re going to take a look at where each team should have the edge below to try and predict what team will win the 2012 NCAAB Championship.

In terms of raw talent the Wildcats have the edge. Kentucky is littered with NBA talent that will most likely be in the NBA draft this summer. Kansas has 1 player that will be a high pick in the NBA draft, but together as a team the Jayhawks believe in each other and could pull off the upset if all the pieces fall into place tomorrow night in New Orleans.

Kentucky is led by superstar Anthony Davis who scored 18 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the Final Four. Kentucky has size with Davis clogging up the paint, but Kansas won’t be intimidated by Davis. Kansas also has a player taller than 7 feet in Withey plus the Jayhawks have Robinson in the paint. Robinson scored 19 against OSU in the Final Four and will have a big game.

Kentucky struggled on the boards a bit against Louisville and Kansas is the type of team that will make them pay for any second chances they give up. Kansas also has more experience and that should help close the talent gap. Tyshawn Taylor struggled with Craft covering him in the Final Four, but he should be able to bounce back for Kansas in the finals.

2012 NCAAB Championship Prediction

The point spread opened at -6.5 for Kentucky initially, but most shops now have this game at -6. The Wildcats should definitely be favoured in this game, but Kansas has a knack for staying in games. It seems almost every Jayhawks game is decided in the final minute of the game and I think that trend will continue.

Kentucky has the talent level to run away with this game early, but I think the Jayhawks keep it close. Kansas has to be feeling very confident after beating the Buckeyes and I’m sure they’ll be ready to play. The guards will need to score more on Kansas in this game, as the paint will be plugged up. The big men on Kansas need to make sure they pick up offensive boards.

I’m betting on Kansas at +6 and avoiding the moneyline. I don’t really know who will win the game. I think both teams have a legitimate shot at winning the game and I don’t see any value in the moneyline. The over/under is 137 and I like the under in this game although it should be real close. Kansas has been playing exceptional defence and I think we’ll see both teams in the 60’s.

• Game Prediction – Kansas Jayhawks +6

• Total Prediction – Under 137
