North Carolina State Wolfpack vs. Kansas Jayhawks Picks

North Carolina State Wolfpack seem like they’re going to be the legitimate sleeper in this tournament. NC State knocked off the Hoyas in the 3rd round 66-63, as the Hoyas weren’t able to hit their shots. Georgetown took quite a few more shots in the game, but NC State shot a better percentage and hit more free throws.

There isn’t a single player that you need to be careful of on NC State, as the whole team can hurt you in different areas. Four of the starters on the Wolfpack scored in double digits against Georgetown and Howell scored 9. The scoring is balanced on the team and that makes it difficult for their opponents. Most Cinderella teams have 1-2 players that can hurt you only.

Kansas almost lost to Purdue, but they pulled out a late 63-60 victory. Kansas waited until the final minute to take the lead and they sealed the deal with a dunk with about 2 seconds left on the clock. Kansas hasn’t been playing great. I watched the whole game and Robinson didn’t look like he even wanted to be on the court most of the game.

The Jayhawks probably would have won the game more decisively if it weren’t for senior Robbie Hummel. Hummel went out in style against the Jayhawks, as he nailed 5 of 9 3-pointers and scored26 points. Kansas had no answer for Hummel in the 1st half, but they made adjustments and held him to only 4 points in the 2nd half.

Kansas was horrible at shooting the ball against Purdue. They only hit roughly 34% of their shots from the field and 25% of their 3-point shots, which they need to improve upon against NC State. The Wolfpack are very athletic and the Jayhawks won’t be able to wake up for the final 5 minutes of the game against this team.

Kansas is favoured by -8 points in this game and I’m going with the underdog. This point spread is to big based on how the two teams have been playing basketball this month. Kansas feel they deserve to be given a free spot in the Final Four it seems, as the team hasn’t showed up to play yet. They could this week, but I’ll bet against them and see if the Wolfpack can cash again.
