North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Ohio Bobcats Picks

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. Ohio Bobcats Picks

Most people had the #1 seeded Tar Heels advancing to the Sweet Sixteen in the Midwest Region. North Carolina beat Creighton in the round of 32 by the score of 87-73, but news broke that Kendall Marshall injured his wrist during the game. Marshall is the glue that makes the talent on the Tar Heels stick and if he’s unable to play it’ll definitely hurt the team tremendously.

Marshall led the Tar Heels with 18 points and 11 assists against Creighton before getting hurt. Kendall shot 7-8 from the field and was able to dish out the ball to the open players when he was given the chance. Henson played against Creighton and scored 13 points, but he looked like he was in pain most of the game.

With Henson playing at less than 100% and Kendall possibly out UNC is going to need to rely on Harrison Barnes and Tyler Zeller. I watched Zeller and while he was great on offence it seemed that he was weak on defence. Ohio is already riding a couple upsets coming into this game, but the team is going to have to step it up if they want to keep this S16 match-up reasonably close.

Ohio is the #12 seed in the Midwest Region and they’ve been very impressive as a team. Ohio knocked off Michigan in round 2 and South Florida in round 3. In round 3 Ohio shot the ball extremely well from distance, as the team went 9 of 18 from beyond the arc to secure 62-56 victory. Walter Offutt scored 21 points for the Bobcats while DJ Cooper pitched in with 19 points.

There is no doubt that Cooper is the star on this Ohio team, but Offutt will need another game in double digits against UNC to keep this game competitive. UNC is a huge favourite of -10.5 points in this game and I think that’s a bit too much considering the fact that Kendall has a wrist injury. Without Kendall the Tar Heels will turn the ball over a lot and give up lots of fast break points.

North Carolina has way more talent and should be able to win this game, but I think Ohio will stay within the -10.5 point spread in this game. Cooper has been playing great basketball for Ohio and if he can score around 20 points they should have no issues staying within the spread.
