Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Kansas Jayhawks Picks

In the 2nd Final Four game this week we have the #2 seeds playing from the West and Midwest Regions. Ohio State was able to win the West Region this year while Kansas won the Midwest Region. Ohio State has opened as a -3 point favourite and they’ve been bet down to -2.5 at almost every sportsbook now. I think the point spread will stay at -2.5 most of the week. The total in this 2012 Final Four game is 136.5 with early action coming in on the over.

Kansas had a fairly decent draw in the Midwest Region this season. After beating Detroit, Purdue and North Carolina State, KU played in the Elite Eight against North Carolina. Kansas was lucky because Kendall wasn’t able to play for UNC. The Jayhawks won 80-67. Tyshawn Taylor was able to break out of his tournament funk with a 22 point effort against UNC and KU will need Taylor to have a big game again to help out Robinson.

Ohio State had to play the #1 seed Syracuse Orange in the Elite Eight of the West Region and the Buckeyes were able to win the game 77-70. Sullinger dropped 19 points for OSU against the Orange and I’m sure he’s going to have a big game against Kansas, but the big question is what role players can step in to help out? Deshaun Thomas has had an impressive tourney and he should be able to pitch in down low on the boards.

Buford is still shooting poorly this tournament. Buford scored 13 points against Kansas, but he shot horribly and should have had more points in the game. Kraft has shown some flashes of brilliance for Ohio State, but he’s inconsistent and will have a tough match-up this week against Kansas. Both of these teams have very similar offences, so defence is going to win this game. The team that comes out and plays the hardest on defence I think is going to win the game outright.

OSU averages 75.1 PPG, 36.8 RPG, 15.2 APG and they shoot .486 from the field. Kansas has been able to average 75 PPG, 36.9 RPG, 15.6 APG and the team is shooting .485 from the field. Both teams have basically identical offensive stats, but I think the Buckeyes have the better defence. Ohio State has played better this tournament in my opinion and I’ll be taking OSU on the moneyline and by -2.5 on the point spread.

With the winner getting a bid to the 2012 NCAAB Championship Finals the atmosphere is going to be crazy. Expect OSU to jump out to an early lead in the 1st 5 minutes of the game and not look back. This will be a close game, but I think OSU will lead the game most of the time. Kansas played UNC very hard and looked very good, but without Kendall the Tar Heels aren’t the same team.
