Syracuse Orange vs. Ohio State Buckeyes Picks

The East Region looked to be the toughest region to make your way through in the March Madness tournament. There were a lot of great teams in the region, but the #1 and #2 seeds ended up proving their worth. Top seeded Syracuse will play the #2 seed Ohio State in the East Region Elite Eight match-up. The Orange are underdogs by +3 despite being the #1 seed in the region.

Syracuse barely made it out of their S16 game against Wisconsin, but they ended up winning 64-63. Wisconsin had a chance at the end of the game to score a couple times, but they missed the net completely. Both teams struggled from the charity line in the S16 game, but the Orange drained over 55% of their shots from the field and 3-point distance.

The Orange had a 6-point lead at halftime, but Wisconsin couldn’t pull out the win in the 2nd half despite nailing a lot of 3’s. There were a lot of wide open 3-pointers (14 of 27) for Wisky and Syracuse is going to need to work on defending the long ball. C.J. Fair put in 15 points to lead Cuse against the Badgers and he’ll need another good game against OSU.

Ohio State didn’t have too much problem with Cincinnati in the S16, but OSU really did play a great game. Buford didn’t have a good game, but the other four starters on OSU scored in double digits. Deshaun Thomas scored 26 points while Sullinger finally broke through to score 23 points. Sullinger should be able to have a good game against Syracuse without Melo in the line-up.

If Syracuse can’t stop Sullinger in the paint they’ll probably lose this game. Sullinger should be ready to go after a good game in the S16 round and I’m sure he’s happy Melo isn’t playing. Thomas has had an amazing March Madness this year for OSU and he’s going to be able to put up points, but he can’t do it himself.

Craft and Buford both struggled against the Bearcats, but they should do much better against the Orange. Syracuse struggled with the guard play of Wisconsin and OSU should be able to shoot the ball fine against the Orange perimeter defence. I wish OSU wasn’t favoured in the game, but I’m still going to bet on them at -3.
