2012 NCAAF National Championship

2012 BCS National Championship Odds & Predictions

The 2012 BCS National Championship Game will be between Alabama Crimson Tide (11-1) and LSU Tigers (13-0). This is the 1st time that a team (Alabama) has made the BCS National Championship Game without winning their respective division. The game will be played at the Superdome in New Orleans this Monday (January 9th 2012) at 8:30ET.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers BCS National Championship Odds

• Alabama Crimson Tide -1.5 vs. LSU Tigers +1.5 – Over/Under Total is 40

Right now most online sportsbooks have set the over/under right on 40 points for this game. Alabama is favoured by -1 to -2 points at the major online sportsbooks, so shop around for the best line based on the team you decide to bet on. If you want to bet on the moneyline you can bet on the Crimson Tide at -125 roughly and the Tigers at +110 roughly depending upon where you’re betting.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers Recent History

These two teams played against each other in the regular season and LSU won the game 9-6 in overtime. The big story of the game was the fact that the Crimson Tide missed four field goals in the game. Not only did the missed FG’s fail to put up points, but it also meant the Tigers were given prime starting field position to start their drives. I don’t expect Saban to take the same chances he did in the 1st game with long FG’s and I actually think we’ll see him punt the ball more often in LSU territory to pin the Tigers deep.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers Offensive Analysis

Throughout the regular season the Crimson Tide posted slightly better offensive numbers than the Tigers. In Bama’s 9-6 loss to the Tigers earlier this season, the Crimson Tide actually out gained the Tigers by quite a bit, but they missed too many FG’s. During the season Alabama averaged 433.4 total yards per game on offence while the Tigers only averaged 375.3 total yards per game.

Alabama had the better passing offence during the regular season and the QB battle will be paramount to win in this game. Bama needs McCarron to have a good game this time around to beat the Tigers. I think LSU will use more man coverage to stop the run and McCarron will be forced to make some good throws to keep drives moving. LSU has announced that Jefferson will start the championship game due to the fact that Lee struggled so much in the regular season meeting against Alabama.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers Defensive Analysis

Just like the last game between these two teams on November 5th 2011, I fully expect this to be a defensive battle. I think we’ll see a final score higher than 9-6 this time around, but I’m betting on the under 40 points still. Alabama has the best defence is the league this season and they ranked 1st for rushing yards against and passing yards against. LSU wasn’t far behind Alabama on defence this season, as the Tigers ranked 3rd in rushing yards against and 8th in passing yards against.

Last time around Alabama did a great job on defence at stopping the Tigers offence. LSU played a lot of zone last time around and they actually did a good job at preventing any big plays, but Alabama was able to gain yardage on the ground and with quick short passes to Richardson. I must admit that I prefer an offensive minded game plan in championship games because it’s more exciting, but at the same time these two defences are so good that it’ll be a treat to watch them in action with everything on the line.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers Special Teams Analysis

Special teams cost the Crimson Tide the game in the 1st meeting between these two teams and special teams is going to be very important in the BCS National Championship game on Monday. Saban needs to make sure he doesn’t take too many risks in the kicking department because missed FG’s will give the Tigers excellent field position. With Alabama’s defence I think we’ll see Saban play more conservatively on special teams and we may see more punts rather than long field goal attempts in this game.

Alabama Crimson Tide vs. LSU Tigers Prediction

In the first meeting between these two teams I picked Alabama to win and lost. I’m going to double down on Alabama in the game on Monday, as almost everything point to an Alabama victory. The Crimson Tide have a more potent offence, better defence and if they can solve their special teams problems I think they’ll run away in this game with a 7+ point win.

I’ll be betting on Alabama by -1 and under 40 in this game.

UPDATE

• Final Score – Alabama Crimson Tide 19 vs. LSU Tigers 10
