2012 NFL Week 16 Odds, Predictions & Previews

by Scott

Last week I was 10-6 and I’m hoping for two more weeks with at least that record to finish up the regular season. We’re now in the 16th week of the NFL season and quite a few teams have either made the playoffs or have been eliminated. I know it’s a bit late this week on posting the picks, but there isn’t a Thursday night game tonight and I’ve been busy with Christmas.

Overall Record – 114-100-6

Best Bets for Week 16 of the NFL Season

Atlanta Falcons -3.5 (-105) vs. Detroit Lions +3.5 (-115) – Pick: Falcons -3.5

Julio-Jones-Week-16There is no doubt the Falcons are the better team, but at just -3.5 this game seems like a bit of a trap. After watching Arizona go out and dominate the Lions last week (38-10) there is no way you can bet on the Lions. Calvin is still having a good year for DET, but noone else on the team is playing great. With a win this week Atlanta will lock up the NFC. Take ATL on Saturday.

Tennessee Titans +12.5 (-110) vs. Green Bay Packers -12.5 (-110) – Pick: Packers -12.5

The Titans won last week against the Jets (14-10), but that was because the Jets had 5 TO’s. The Packers are still fighting in the NFC with the Falcons for 1st place and they need a win. James Jones looked great last week, as GB won 21-13 in Chicago. If the Titans come out playing soft defense like they do most weeks the Packers should walk all over them this weekend in GB.

Oakland Raiders +8.5 (-110) vs. Carolina Panthers -8.5 (-110) – Pick: Raiders +8.5

Carolina looked great when they beat the Chargers 31-7 while the Raiders shutout the Chiefs 15-0. This match-up should feature a lot of rushing. Williams had a big game last week for the Panthers and McFadden played well for the Raiders. I don’t see why the Panthers are such big favourites in this game and I’m going with the Raiders to keep this match-up close on Sunday.

Buffalo Bills +4.5 (-110) vs. Miami Dolphins -4.5 (-110) – Pick: Dolphins -4.5

Reggie-Bush-Week-16Miami won last week 24-3 against the Jaguars. I don’t think they’ll put the same beating on the Bills, but in this division game the Dolphins are going to come out on top. Reggie Bush is most likely gone next year, but he has been putting up big yards the past few games in order to secure a contract. I expect Bush to put up big numbers and the Dolphins beat the lowly Bills at home.

Cincinnati Bengals +3 (+100) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers -3 (-120) – Pick: Bengals +3

The Steelers lost a heartbreaker last week against the Cowboys in a game that Pittsburgh probably should have won. Cincy is in 2nd place in the AFC North and is looking good to earn a wild card playoff spot, but they need to win this week. This is going to be one of the best games of the weekend. I’m taking the Bengals getting +3, as this is going to be a close game at Heinz Field.

New England Patriots -14.5 (-110) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars +14.5 (-110) – Pick: Patriots -14.5

I don’t know the last time I bet on a favourite of over 2 TD’s in the NFL, but the Jaguars are lost. Montell Owens should have a big game rushing the football for the Jags, but that’s about it. Brady is going to be able to pick this defense apart and after the loss last week to the 49ers you can bet that the Patriots are going to come out looking for blood in this match-up against JAC.

Indianapolis Colts -7 (-103) vs. Kansas City Chiefs +7 (-117) – Pick: Colts -7

Ty-Hilton-Week-16The Colts control their own destiny this season; as if they win they’ll win a wild card playoff spot. The Colts are favoured by a TD and I think they’ll cover that spread. In week 14 the Chiefs were smoked by the Browns after scoring just 7 points and last week the Chiefs couldn’t even score a TD against the Raiders. KC is a mess right now and Luck should be able to throw for 300+ yards.

New Orleans Saints +2.5 (-105) vs. Dallas Cowboys -2.5 (-115) – Pick: Cowboys -2.5

This game could go either way. The Saints looked great last week, as they shutout the Buccaneers 41-0. Dallas still has a chance to win the NFC East and this game is very important. If the Cowboys defense can shutdown Brees to some degree in this game then I think Romo will be able to find his WR’s and score enough to win. The Saints defense is pretty bad, especially on the road.

Washington Redskins -6.5 (-110) vs. Philadelphia Eagles +6.5 (-110) – Pick: Redskins -6.5

Washington is one of the teams still in the NFC East and they’re actually leading the way right now. They play the Eagles and this is a game that they should win. RGIII has been cleared to play and with him in the line-up Garcon should heat up again after a bit of a slow week 15 with Cousins starting at QB. Morris should also have a big day running against the Eagles rush defense.

St. Louis Rams +3 (-110) vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers -3 (-110) – Pick: Buccaneers -3

Vincent-Jackson-Week-16The Bucs looked terrible last week on the road and they won’t be making the playoffs now. The Rams are also out of the race at this point. The Rams have struggled on the road with a 2-3-1 record this year and the Bucs should be able to pick-up a win. I think that Freeman will step it up after a bad week 15 performance and rookie Martin should also have a much better game this week.

New York Giants -2.5 (-110) vs. Baltimore Ravens +2.5 (-110) – Pick: Giants -2.5

The Ravens are still fighting for the AFC North against the Bengals, but they have the wild card locked up already. The Giants are still fighting for a spot in the playoffs and the NFC East with the Redskins and Cowboys. After the Giants were shutout last week they need a win this week. Beating the Ravens who are 5-2 at home won’t be easy, but I’m betting on Eli and the G-Men to win.

Minnesota Vikings +7.5 (-110) vs. Houston Texans -7.5 (-110) – Pick: Vikings +7.5

With so much on the line for the Vikings this weekend I don’t think they’re going to get blown out this weekend. Minnesota still has a shot to make the playoffs if they can keep winning. They’ve won 2 in a row and while winning on the road against Houston is going to be difficult I think +7.5 is a great bet. Peterson is playing great right now and a loss for the Texans won’t hurt them.

Cleveland Browns +13 (-110) vs. Denver Broncos -13 (-110) – Pick: Broncos -13

Eric-Decker-Week-16Denver is still fighting for 1st place in the AFC and a win would help them stay on track. There is no doubt that Denver wins this week at home, but winning by 2 TD’s is going to be tough unless they come out and play the full 60 minutes hard. The Browns are just 1-5 on the road and they’ve been beaten badly a few times, so I’m going with the Broncos at Mile High to win on Sunday.

Chicago Bears -5.5 (-110) vs. Arizona Cardinals +5.5 (-110) – Pick: Bears -5.5

Arizona had a great defensive game last week and they smoked the Lions, but I don’t expect that to happen again. Chicago has lost their L3 and the playoffs are looking doubtful unless they can string two wins together. Chicago is very talented, but since Urlacher went out they’ve had problems. Arizona’s offense isn’t a threat, so the Bears should win by more than a TD this week.

San Francisco 49ers -1 (-110) vs. Seattle Seahawks +1 (-110) – Pick: 49ers -1

I’ve been impressed with the 49ers since putting in Kaepernick at QB and I’m betting them. They can lock up the NFC West this week with a road win over their division rivals and with the way they played last week I like their chances. Kaepernick should outshine rookie Wilson on Sunday. I rarely bet against Seattle at home, but this is one of those times where I like the road team.

San Diego Chargers +2.5 (+100) vs. New York Jets -2.5 (-120) – Pick: Chargers +2.5

San Diego didn’t look good last week, but the Jets looked even worse. Tebow barely seen the field and Sanchez looked terrible the entire game. Every time the Jets had a chance to score Sanchez turned the football over. The Jets barely looked like they’re trying out their on offense and the Chargers are giving it more effort on the field. Take SD on the road to beat-up the Jets.
