2012 Week 13 New York Giants vs. Washington Redskins Predictions

by Scott

The New York Giants are 7-4 and lead the NFC East right now, but the Washington Redskins who are 6-5 will be hosting the NYG this weekend and could close in the gap in the division. The Redskins are 2nd in the NFC East and need to win this week at home on Monday Night Football (MNF).

The G-Men opened up as a -2.5 point favorite this weekend and the line is still the same at the moment. After the Giants best up on the Packers last weekend (38-10) I thought the spread would be bigger despite the Redskins playing better the past 2 weeks.

Giants vs. Redskins Odds

Point Spread: Giants -2.5 (-120) vs. Redskins +2.5 (+100)

Game Total: Over 51 (-110) vs. Under 51 (-110)

Moneyline: Giants (-145) vs. Redskins (+125)

Redskins vs. Giants Picks

These two teams played back in week 7 and the Giants won at home by the score of 27-23. Eli Manning threw a late TD in order to win the game for the G-Men, but apart from that late 77-yard TD pass to Cruz he was only 25/39 and had 2 INT’s.

Griffin III on the other hand had played a monster game where he went 20/28 for 258 passing yards, 2 TD’s and 1 INT. RB Morris also rushed for 120 yards plus Griffin III had 89 rushing yards on just 9 carries for the Redskins in that week 7 game.

The Giants still just rank 16th against the run (114 RYPG) this season, but they’ve been getting better. Last week they allowed a lot of rushing yards, but a lot of those yards were once they were blowing out the Packers. Against Cincy they allowed just 76 yards.

NYG knows that in order to win this game they need to focus on the run. The Redskins rank 1st in rushing yards on offense still, as they average 163.5 RYPG. Morris and Griffin are still picking up plenty of yards, but the Giants have the d-line to stop them.

Eli Manning has started to play better the past couple weeks and the Giants now average 254.8 PYPG (8th). The Redskins have a hard time stopping the pass this year, as they’ve allowed an average of 301.4 PYPG (31st). If Eli throws for 300+ the Giants win.

There were some question marks about the Giants WR’s, but last week Nicks caught 5 for 77 yards, Cruz had 3 for 36 yards and TE Bennett had 3 for 44 yards against GB. With the Redskins poor secondary this game could get ugly if WAS can’t run the ball.

These division games are always close, but the Giants have the experience and will want to win this game. If they win this game they basically lock up the division. If they were to lose the race with Washington for the NFC East would be much closer.

Pick: New York Giants -2.5 (-120)
