Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Tennessee Titans Week 6 Pick 2012

by Scott

Tonight the Pittsburgh Steelers play the Tennessee Titans on Thursday Night Football. This game won’t excite everyone, but for bettors there is plenty to bet on including dozens of prop bets like every other TNF game this season. The Steelers (2-2) need to win this game, as they’re only 3rd place in the AFC North. The Titans (1-4) are dead last in the AFC South at the moment.

Steelers vs. Titans Betting Odds

Point Spread: Pittsburgh Steelers -6 (-110) vs. Tennessee Titans +6 (-110)

Moneyline: Pittsburgh Steelers -255 vs. Tennessee Titans +215

Game Total: Over 43.5 (-110) vs. Under 43.5 (-110)

Pittsburgh is dealing with numerous injuries heading into this game, as the bye week didn’t end up helping. The bye week was supposed to solve the Steelers injury woes, but several players re-injured themselves last week against the Eagles.

Troy Polamalu and LaMarr Woodley will miss this week 6 tilt. RB Rashard Mendenhall is fine after playing his 1st game of the year last week and he actually was one of the only players to play well on the Steelers team last week, as he rushed for 68 yards.

With the injuries to the Steelers defence the Titans should have an easier time moving the football. Hasselbeck is starting again this week for the Titans at QB due to Locker being injured, so I expect the Titans to try and get Johnson going early on.

Tennessee hasn’t had any success running the football this year, but they need a running game against Pittsburgh or this will be another long week for the Titans. Apart from their lone win on the season against the struggling Lions the Titans have lost each of their other four games by 20+ points and Pittsburgh despite not being explosive should cover the point spread of -6 (-110).

The only thing that worries me about the Steelers point spread is their struggles on the road this year. The Steelers are 0-2 while on the road this season with losses against Denver and Oakland. On the road the Steelers have allowed an average of 32.5 PPG compared to 23.2 PPG when factoring in all of the games this season, which is a big difference despite the small sample size.

In my opinion the best bet in this game is on the over 43.5 points. Tennessee has allowed an average of 37.5 PPG in two games at home this year while scoring an average of 28.5 PPG. Tennessee has only scored 14 and 7 points the last two weeks, but now they get to play the Steelers weakened defence on short rest at home. They should score 20+ points this week.

Tennessee has also struggled with turnovers this season, which is another reason I like the over and the Steelers. Tennessee is ranked 26th in the NFL with an average of 2 giveaways per game compared to the Steelers who rank 2nd with 0.8. Hasselbeck is playing at least one more week and the Steelers should be able to intercept him at least a couple times tonight.

Steelers vs. Titans Best Bets Week 6

• Over 43.5 Points (-110) & Pittsburgh Steelers -6 (-110)
