Phil Taylor is the 2012 PDC World Darts favourite

15-time PDC World Darts Champions Phil Taylor has insisted that he will not be giving up the sport any time soon and says he is ready to add another title at the Alexandra Palace later in the month.

‘The Power’ will be going for his 16th world title over the Christmas period and is sure to be one of the big contenders to lift the trophy on New Years Day.

The 52-year-old is the greatest that the sport has ever seen, but doubts over his future started to arise when he was knocked out in the second round of the Grand Slam of Darts by young Dutch hotshot Michal van Gerwin. However, in typical Taylor fashion he bounced back to win the Players Championship Final last week, which added to his huge amount of major victories.

When asked whether he has plans to retire anytime soon, the world number one said: “I’ve just won a major. Am I finished? Not by a long shot, no.”As long as you keep yourself quite healthy then you can go on a lot longer, it’s not football.”

Taylor will be looking to stop Adrian Lewis winning his third title in as many years in the World Championships this year, and also believes that the pressure is massively on him to deliver.

It does look like being one of the closest tournaments to date, with a number of big name players all in contention to lift the newly-named Sid Waddell trophy. Van Gerwin, Raymond van Barneveld, Simon Whitlock and Gary Anderson will all be looking to challenge Taylor and Lewis for the title.

If we look at the betting for the competition, it is no surprise that Taylor is the favourite to make it 16 wins as you can back him at 7/4.

Van Gerwin is then a 5/1 shot, with Lewis out at 14/1 to claim his hat-trick of victories. Australian Simon Whitlock could then be good value at 16/1, with Anderson and van Barneveld at 18/1.
